Sail Croatia

Sept 3 - 10

Seven crazy days sailing from Dubrovnik to Split, docking at a different island every night on our quaint little boat, Almissa Blu...

Day 1
We met for lunch on the boat and then spent the rest of the afternoon at a bar that juts out from the walls of Old Town, with many different cliffs you can jump off and into the water. Of course, I didn't jump! But I enjoyed watching the others. In the evening we had a rather 'large' night exploring the clubs of Dubrovnik, including one that was in a 500 year old fortress!

Day 2
The morning was somewhat of a struggle... I discovered that a hangover does not go well with seasickness... Luckily, there was fresh air and beautiful island views to help us all recover. Eventually we made it to Mjlet. First we stopped for a swim in the crystal clear, bright blue water.

From the dock we walked to the national park and swam in the lake - again, crystal clear water!

We were meant to stay there overnight but the forecast for the next day was rubbish so the captain decided we should head a little closer to our next stop to avoid choppy waters in the morning. This meant we got to squeeze an extra place into our itinerary - Lumbarda. While there Lily and I walked along the coast, looking out onto the many surrounding islands.

That night we had BBQ on the boat with an incredible sunset.

Day 3
We had a lazy morning in Lumbarda, including a little stroll inland.

In the afternoon we arrived in Korcula. It's such a beautiful little town...and such a shame it was cloudy and rainy the whole time we were there.

Wanting to take cover from the rain, I went with Sim and Hannah to Marco Polo's childhood home. However, I think his 'home' is now just rubble. The only remaining part was essentially just a narrow staircase with a little rooftop area to check out the view - undercover, luckily.

Day 4
The sun came back out for us! While the boat meandered through the islands, we all soaked up the sun on the top deck.

After lunch we had a swim stop, just outside of Hvar.

Hvar is another beautiful old town, known mostly for its nightlife. We all walked up to the fort to take in epic views of the town and its surrounding islands.

I spent the afternoon roaming around the streets with Chloe and Paloma.

We bought ourselves some cheap supermarket dinner (I bought canned tuna...which turned out to be a tuna paste?!) and we found a spot with a wicked view to enjoy while we ate.

Hvar lived up to its nightlife reputation... Drinks were drunk. Much dancing ensued!

Day 5
By the time I woke up we were already docked in Stari Grad, another town on Hvar island. I absolutely fell in love with Stari Grad. Most of the towns we've been to have that same typical Old Town style... But Stari Grad felt much less touristy.

I spent the morning aimlessly wandering the gorgeous little streets and the port area.

In the afternoon Paloma, Chloe, Lily and I went into the Tvrdalj Castle; the sold ummer residence of a Croatian poet. He designed it as a 'world for divine creatures' - including a pond in the middle for fish, a dove cot over it and a huge garden full of herbs.

Later on, we climbed up a little mountain to get a view over the town. Stunnnnnning!

After dinner a bunch of us went for a walk and stumbled upon some lavender ice cream, apparently very popular on the island. Smells lovely (as you would expect) but I don't really rate the taste...the flavour is too strong!

Day 6
We had a long morning on the boat before we pulled into Maskarska.

Maskarska is beautiful, mostly due to its incredible mountainous back drop.

After a bit of costume-shopping we walked along the coast, including a couple of view points, some cliff jumping spots, a market and a beach.

That night was 'pirates and sailors' night. Once we were dessed up we headed for the cave bar for a long night of dancing!

Day 7
Our last day on the boat!

When we arrived in Split the boat was rocking around like crazy in the port, so we quickly hopped off to explore the old town. It has more of a roman feel to it than the other towns we've visited.

Exhausted from our hectic week, we had a very quiet night eating ice cream and enjoying live music in the old town.

Day 8
Many people departed early but those of us who were still left on the boat said our goodbyes in the morning! Farewell Almissa Blu ❤
